The Smolensk region establishes cooperation with Japan

The Head of Department on Russian Affairs of Hokkaido Prefecture (Japan) Mr. Nobuyuki Shinohara has visited the Smolensk region with a business visit.

Earlier the Governor of the Smolensk region Alexey Ostrovsky visited Hokkaido Prefecture within the action organized by the Russian-Japanese business council. Then the presentation of investment potential of the Smolensk region took place in Japan.

At the meeting with representatives of Administration of Smolensk region Mr. Nobuyuki Shinohara has told about the operating cooperation of Hokkaido Prefecture with the Far East regions of Russia and has expressed interest in development of similar cooperation with the Smolensk region. The number of questions about cooperation of regions in various spheres was discussed during the meeting.

Following the results the parties have agreed to begin work on preparation of the draft agreement on cooperation. Interaction assumes the bilateral relations in such spheres as economy, tourism, investments and health care.
