Rosa Dairy Industrial Complex Has Started its Operation in Smolensk

Governor of the Smolensk Region Alexey Ostrovsky paid a working visit to Rosa Smolensk Dairy Industrial Complex, where he participated in the production launch. The total project`s investment volume amounted to over 300 million rubles. 80 Smolensk residents received new jobs.

The main plant`s activities will be processing and supplying dairy products in and outside of the region. At the present, there are being tested various processing technologies for producing kefir, curd, sour cream. Based on the results of this work, there will be selected products with the best characteristics to be delivered to the shelves. The company`s product nomenclature under the Rosa brand is expected to be represented by 10 commodity items – milk, kefir, curd, sour cream with a variety of fat contents, cheese and dairy butter.

Under the investment project, there were replaced engineering networks of gas supply, roof covering and were overhauled water supply and sewerage systems in the plant. In addition, there have been modernized 3 cooling cabinets: two for raw materials and semi-finished products and one for finished products.

Today, the complex receives 10 tons of raw materials a day from the Smolensk enterprises Shuyskoye, Druzhba APC and others. Negotiations are under way with Radishchevo APC as well as Zolotaya Niva. However, the areas allow to reach the second and third shifts of production in order to ensure the peak load of plant capacity in the coming years.

During the visit Alexey Ostrovsky drew a special attention of investors and the management of the industrial complex to new support measures for milk producers, which will directly affect the plant activities.

There are plans to make compensation in the amount of 4 rubles to regional processors for each purchased liter of milk. This is done to ensure processing local milk and making additional profits within the region. Summing up the results of the working visit, Alexey Ostrovsky emphasized that starting operation of Rosa industrial complex will certainly contribute to the dynamic development of the region`s processing industry.

For reference only

The Smolensk dairy plant was founded in 1974 and was the largest milk processing enterprise in the region. In 1996 it was transformed into Rosa Smolensk dairy plant, which in 2005 became part of the UNIMILK holding (since 2010 – Danone GC). In 2014, the plant stopped its operating due to the owner`s decision. Governor Alexey Ostrovsky managed to convince the investor of the need to restore the plant, and assisted in facilitation of an investment loan approved by the Ministry of Agriculture for the dairy plant`s restoration.
