Food Industry in the Smolensk Region Is Growing at High Rates: Plus 22 Per Cent in 2019

Food industry is the most demanded sector of the Smolensk Region`s economy and one of the top priorities for the region. In 2019, the food production index from January to November amounted to 121.8% compared with the same period last year. According to experts and taking into account the indicators of December, the industry growth will reach 22%. These figures indicate the dynamic and consistent development of the food industry.

“The region`s industry is developing at a healthy pace, there is an obvious positive trend. State support of enterprises has been greatly contributing to this growth. For example, more than 3 million roubles were channeled for the development of the HACCP certification system this year. Such assistance is in great demand, it provides access to new markets, including federal commerce networks. According to preliminary forecasts, at the end of this year the food production index will reach the highest indicator in the Smolensk Region`s recent history. Before that, the record year was 2015, when the index stood at 121.7%”, comments Head of the Industry Office of the Industry and Trade Department of the Smolensk Region Oleg Vorobyev.
