Desnogorsk Polymer Plant Will Receive a 200 Million Loan from the Industrial Development Fund for Barrier Film Production

The Expert Council of the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) approved a loan in the amount of 200 million rubles for the Desnogorsk Polymer Plant. With this money the company will expand the food flexible barrier packaging production under the Depol brand. The total project budget is almost 440 million rubles. Despite the closed internal borders of Desnogorsk under conditions of the high- alert regime, with the assistance of the Governor Alexey Ostrovsky the negotiations between the enterprise and the Fund, as well as the accompanying documents preparation were successful.

The film can be used in packing machines and lines with the purpose of forming bags or trays for fish and meat products storage. According to the company, more than 50% of packaging materials of this type are supplied from abroad. It is expected that about 11% of the barrier film will be exported to Belarus.

Our plant is developing a full-cycle barrier packaging production: from the individual formulas to the production of multilayer/laminated film as well as packages of various types,” said Alexander Preferansov, General Director of the Desnogorsk Polymer Plant. “With resources from the Industrial Development Fund, we will expand the production capacities with the purpose of the long-term strategy implementation aimed at developing the enterprise. Thanks to the Administration`s support, our application was approved quickly in spite of the banned travel in and out of the town under virus spreading.”

The company will purchase the most advanced equipment for manufacturing products conforming to the highest quality analogues of the world`s leading companies. In total, under the project it is expected to produce 15.5 thousand tons of barrier polymer film.

Today, over 50% of such packaging materials come from abroad. In this industry, it is a state support that in many ways contributes to the growth of import substitution. The raising of a soft loan by the Desnogorsk Polymer Plant from the Industrial Development Fund is a bright example. Such assistance is in great demand, it will allow for significantly increasing the production output of flexible barrier packaging in the territory of the Smolensk Region,” comments Oleg Vorobyev, Deputy Head of the Industry and Trade Department of the Smolensk Region.

It should be noted that this is not the first joint project of the Smolensk enterprise and the IDF. In 2018, Desnogorsk Polymer Plant launched the production of a multi-layer polyamide-based barrier film for food packaging. Then the project cost amounted to 366 million rubles, of which 150 million rubles was a soft loan approved by the Industrial Development Fund.
