Investment and Industrial Potential of the Smolensk Region Has Been Presented in the State Duma

An exhibition presenting the Smolensk Region as the place offering great opportunities with its huge investment and production potential, has been officially opened in the State Duma. The event was arranged by the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) under the auspices of the Administration of the Smolensk Region. The ceremony was attended by the LDPR Leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Sergey Neverov, Governor of the Smolensk Region Alexey Ostrovsky as well as deputies and senators, acting as official representatives of the Smolensk Region to the Parliament.

Sergey Neverov acknowledged the outstanding performance of the Regional Administration Office and in particular Governor Alexey Ostrovsky. “This exhibition presents the current stage of the Smolensk Region development. I would like to express appreciation to the team of the Regional Administration Office for the work done,” pointed out Deputy Speaker of the State Duma.

I have chosen raising the region’s investment potential as the top priority in my work. One of the best regulatory and legal bases has been formed in the region: due to this, some companies relocate their production facilities from other territories to set them up in the Smolensk Region. We have some industrial parks under construction, a Priority Social and Economic Development Area that has been established, dozens of new enterprises that have been maintained and launched, thousands of new jobs that have been created. Last year the growth of investments in the country amounted to slightly above 4%, and for the Smolensk Region this figure exceeded 17%. No wonder that according to the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the region was included into the top five regions considered to the best venues for promoting small and medium-sized businesses,” commented Governor Alexey Ostrovsky.

It should be recalled that the presented exposition introduces achievements in industrial, agricultural and touristic sectors, as well as demonstrates the key trends in economic development and investment potential of the Smolensk Region.
